How to lose weight after Christmas

We’d all like to know how to lose weight after Christmas, but if you’re like me you will have gained about 6 pounds over the holidays. It’s so easy to put on that extra weight when you’re sitting around the house watch TV when you’d normally be at work. To lose weight after Christmas can be tough for some people. We all over-indulge during Christmas eating huge plates of food and follow them up with high calorie puddings. We all get loads of sweets and candy, or nuts and it’s so easy to keep dipping your hands into the bowl and shoving fistfuls of treats into your mouth.

As we lie around doing nothing, we burn fewer calories and so gain more weight. Its strange how you can easily add 6 pounds over the space of a week but how do you lose weight after Christmas?

Well I have a little lose weight after Christmas plan of my own to share with you that has worked for me many times. I don’t mind gaining 6 pounds over Christmas because I know I can lose them in 12 days quite easily.

I should start by saying this weight loss plan works for me but it might not work for you as it all depends on your height, initial weight, whether you’re male or female; your age and general state of health so always consult your own doctor before trying any diet.

A friend of mine tried the Sexy Forever Diet which she said was really easy, but she after she lost 15 pounds she gave it up. You could have a look at their website and see what you think.

Lose Weight after Christmas diet

Having said that, there’s nothing harmful about my Lose Weight after Christmas diet so here are my golden rules that I stick to for the first 12 days of the New Year.

I say NO to the following:

  • Rule 1: No butter or margarine
  • Rule 2: No fried food
  • Rule 3: No alcohol Monday to Friday
  • Rule 4: No Pizza or any other takeaway food (e.g. Chinese, Indian etc)
  • Rule 5: No biscuits or white bread
  • Rule 6: No eating after 8PM

I say YES to the following:

  • Rule 7: Exercise for 15 minutes each day
  • Rule 8: Eat 3 meals a day:- Breakfast between 7AM and 8AM; Lunch between 12PM and 1PM and evening dinner between 5PM and 7PM
  • Rule 9: Drink 2 litres of water a day
  • Rule 10: Get weighed at start of day 1 and end of day 12 only
  • Rule 11: Tell family & friend I am on 12 day diet
  • Rule 12: Eat carrot sticks when hungry between meals

That’s all I do over 12 days and it works every time. No counting calories or buying special health shakes.

On the first day of my diet I simply sign myself up to those 12 golden rules. To summarise my 6 No rules, I avoid fatty spreads like butter and margarine along with white bread and biscuits. I don’t drink any alcohol on weekdays but allow myself 3 or 4 glasses of wine over the weekend. I don’t eat any takeaway food or pizzas and I totally avoid any fried food. I can have bacon, sausages, burgers and so on as long as they’re grilled so the fat can drain away. And finally I do not eat after 8PM. This is quite important because food eaten in the evening just sits in your stomach. This also helps you wake up better in the morning because you feel hungry.

And to summarise my 6 Yes rules, I first weigh myself on the morning of day 1 and not again until the evening of day 12. There’s no point weighing yourself every day some days you might not lose anything or even gain a pound, so don’t do it. I eat only 3 meals a day and I make sure I eat them at specific times of the day. If I get hungry between meals, I only eat carrot sticks. I prepare these myself and keep them in a plastic container in a bit of water. I take this to work and keep another one in the fridge so there’s always some to hand.

I also tell everyone I’m on this diet so they don’t tempt me with treats. This also helps keep me motivated as I don’t want to let them or myself down. I drink a full 2 litre bottle of water every day as this helps keep me hydrated and helps clean my system. And most important, I do at least 15 minutes of exercise each and every day. This exercise can be spread out over the course of the day if you struggle to find 15 minutes in one go. I find speed walking very effective and a short session of sit ups. I am fortunate to have a dog so I speed walk the dog for 15 minutes every day and do 20 sit-ups each evening by lying on the floor and tucking my feet under the bed. If you haven’t done sit-ups for a while, start off doing just a couple until you get used to them.

That pretty much covers it. Nothing fancy or over complex, just a bit of common sense avoiding certain foods and do a little exercise. After the 12 days you will be amazed at the results.

I call this the Lose Weight After Christmas diet, but you can try it any time during the year when you want to drop a few pounds quickly.

Try it yourself, and let me know how you get on.

It would be great if you could send some before and after photos.

Good luck

Carla
